Here are the Top 10 famous churches in Goa. Goa is mainly known for its beaches and the nightlife, But there is so much more to add and one of them giving a spiritual touch to your Goa revolution.

1. Basilica of Bom Jesus

It is one of the oldest churches in Goa and India and among the top 10 churches in Goa, it is 408 years old and has earned a spot on the list of UNESCO world heritage stage, and we are not surprised about it.

Let’s not forget that Goa is where St. Francis Xavier’s body was shipped to, and since then, the mortals remain in this church, making it a highlight for the worshippers. The church also holds paintings of scenes taken from the life of St. Francis Xavier.

Church interiors are simplistic, with the inlaid marble floors and precious stones with a detailed and elaborated gilded altar. The rusty exterior look of the church has all tourists’ attention and is open to the public every day making it the busiest church in Goa.

2. Se Cathedral

It is the most significant architectural achievement of Goa as this is the largest Old Goa church and a part of the world heritage site.

The Cathedral was presented with a gold ornament, also called “The Golden Rose” by Pope Pius XII, as a token of reverence which is placed on the tomb of St. Francis Xavier.

The architectural structure of this Church is magnificent. It has Tuscan-style exteriors, it is typically a limestone or marble construction with interiors being corinthian and a large bell at the tower called Golden Bell.

There is also a chapel located at the right where a vision of Christ is said to have appeared which makes it more appealing to the visitors and worshippers to visit this Church.

3. Church of our lady of Immaculate Conception.

It is one of the most beautiful Churches in Goa, where they conduct mass every day in 3 different languages: Konkani, English, and Portuguese. It has the second largest bell installed in its tower. The Church has a colorful interior.

The main altar has two gold-plated altars located on either side, making it look mesmerizing. The exterior has a bright white paint that signifies the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

This Church is famous for its festival held on every 8th of December where the Church is decorated beautifully.

4. Mae De Deus Church

At first glance, this Church looks like a castle, and the stunning pure white walls make this architectural structure a pure sight to your eyes. It is surrounded by some amazing beaches too.

This Church is a good example of the neo-gothic architecture of grandeur and beauty, making it look majestic. The interiors of this Church has a golden wooden statue of Mae De Deus, which has six alters apart from the main altar. The first day of May is celebrated as a grand feast.

5. Church of St. Cajetan

It is one of the best architectural designs in Goa. This interiors of the Church has a large dome with Latin inscriptions.

This Church has seven altars, and three alters on the side of the entrance. The pathway to the entrance makes this Church much more elegant.

6. St. Diogo’s Church

This church is constructed beautifully in Neo-roman style and the white exterior White paint makes this church look elegant.

The interiors of the church are also designed in the Roman style and have three entrances one for sang old, main and the third is for Guirim with 3 Church Bells. On every 2nd Sunday of November, the feast of St. Diogo is celebrated.

7. Santa Cruz Church

It is also known as the Holy Cross Church and the façade is also a replica of Se Cathedral. The king of Portugal constructed this church as a means of converting people to Christianity.

It Is a tourists attraction because of its antique look as well. On every 2nd and 8th may every year a feast is held at the holy cross.

8. Church of our Lady of the Mount.

It is one of the oldest Churches in Goa where the construction was completed in 1519, and the Church was restored in 2001 with the funding of Fundacao Oriente, an organization. Since then, the Church looks beautiful with its red/maroon exteriors.

Church Interiors have three altars, the picture on the side panels and those on the main altar depict various aspects of the life of Our Lady. It is popularly known for its Monte music festival which attracts its tourist from all over the world.

A fun fact would be that this church has been a backdrop of many Bollywood movies.

9. Church of St. Francis of Assisi

It is a beautiful church with Baroque and Corinthian Styled architecture. There is a large statue at the main altar of St. Francis of Assisi and Jesus on the cross, with the main entrance decorated in circular pilasters and a rosette band.

The elegant and beautiful interiors of this Church are a great tourist attraction and a must-visit spot.

10. St Alex Church

This is the third Church built in Calangute with Neo-roman style with white facade making it one of the attractive Indian architectural monuments. There are seven alters at this Church.

Every 22nd of July is a feast day for St. Alex and a feast organized for our lady of Lourdes on the 11th of February.
